My den has a path from the door to my computer as every available inch of floor space is covered with rolls, bags, books, invoices, boxes and the like. What are Original rolls? Original rolls are rolls that have not been “cherry picked” for the nicest specimens to slab. Original rolls are sometimes from mint bags and sometimes from Bank Paper Wrappers. If you collect Original Bank Wrapped rolls, you know the premium you will pay for Bank Wrapped Original rolls. PAPER ROLLS WERE NOT preferred in the past as sometimes the paper will oxidize or “tone” the coin, but times have changed and people chase toned and colored coins that are original. Bank Wrapped rolls should be bought with knowledge. If the paper looks new, then it might be a rewrap and picked over. The paper is the greatest sign of an OBW (original Bank Wrapped) roll. Most OBW rolls will have one end opened as the dealer had to verify the top 2 or 3 coins as BU and same in strike. Some are tight on both ends, as they probably came from a group and it was easy to distinguish that if one was original, the rest were probably as well. Are the end coins toned? Most likely that will be the case, and the inside ones are the fun ones to pick over. Check out my store, see if I can wrangle a few more bucks out of you!
